About me
Hi!
I am Brenda, a Dutch-born artist and surface pattern designer, currently spending my time exploring new places across the UK and Europe.
I’ve always loved creating things, finding beauty in the everyday, and making connections between ideas, people and places. After more than 20 years working in digital design, I’ve gradually found my way towards the part of design that brings me the most joy: creating artwork, patterns and illustrations.
My work is inspired by the natural world, animals, travel and, above all, colour. I love finding interesting shapes, textures and little details in the world around me and turning them into playful, thoughtful designs.
Inspired by nature
Nature is a constant source of inspiration for me. From flowers and forests to ocean life and the animals that share our world, I’m endlessly fascinated by colour, movement, texture and pattern.
Animals in particular have always had a special place in my imagination. A butterfly’s wings, a cat’s character, the graceful movement of a horse or the curious nature of a little woodland creature can all spark an idea for a new illustration or collection.
I also love experimenting with colour—from warm, earthy palettes to bold and joyful combinations—and exploring how different colours can change the feeling of a design.
My hope is that my work brings a little of that sense of wonder into everyday life.
A little more about me
I have a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology, which has given me a lifelong curiosity about people, cultures and the world around me. It has also shaped the way I observe things and approach creative work: with curiosity, sensitivity and an eye for the details that make something distinctive.
I work independently and love collaborating with people from different places and backgrounds. Whether I’m creating a pattern collection, illustrating an idea or helping bring a visual concept to life, I care about creating work that feels thoughtful, personal and authentic.
I work remote most a lot of the time and I ’employ’ cats to distract me from daily life. 🙂
